Edmonds
and Hudson Valley Community Colleges Awarded Student Online Information
Technology Grant
Recipients of Grant Worth $150,000-$500,000 in Goods
and Services To Be Announced at The NISOD International Conference on
Teaching & Learning Excellence
AUSTIN,
Texas - May 30, 2000 – Student Online, Inc., the premier higher
education intranet portal company, announces today that Edmonds Community
College (WA) and Hudson Valley Community College (NY) have been awarded
its Information Technology Grant. The grant – which underwrites
all hardware, software, and integration consulting costs of the Student
Online portal platform – will be used to give each school the premier
portal for facilitating and enhancing campus-wide communication while
simultaneously generating revenue for each recipient institution.
The
announcement, which will be made before an esteemed audience of community
college administrators at the NISOD International Conference on Teaching
& Learning Excellence in the Austin Convention Center, demonstrates
Student Online’s commitment to helping community colleges access new
technology.
Student
Online plans to announce another nine recipient institutions shortly.
Each grant is worth between $150,000-$500,000 in goods and services,
depending on the size of the school.
The
grant program was created to offer schools that normally do not possess
the resources to acquire new portal technology a chance to be on an even
level with those that do. Student Online’s unique
revenue-generating aspect of its portal actual allows its partner
institutions to earn supplemental income through e-commerce and wireless
hardware sales while enhancing all aspects of internal communication.
“Student
Online couldn’t be more proud of the institutions that will receive our
grant,” says Student Online CEO, Sunil Deshmukh. “Each
school’s grant application demonstrated a vested interest on the
school’s behalf in becoming a technological leader. By optimizing
intra-campus communication and thereby dramatically increasing
productivity, all students, faculty, and staff at each school will be the
beneficiaries of today’s premier collegiate portal technology.”
Student
Online’s Intranet portals are the optimal way for institutions of higher
education to communicate with their students, faculty, and administration.
By unifying information within a campus to make it more accessible,
Student Online enhances intra-campus communication by using portal
features such as automated organizers, web-based email, calendaring, and
content feeds, to create a comprehensive campus-wide solution.
Further, Student Online preserves the academic integrity of each of its
partner institutions by prohibiting banner advertising.
