Soon, alumni will be in better
contact with their alma maters as they can learn about fellow
graduates, alumni events, how to donate to their institutions,
and will even be able to conduct e-commerce online.
Alumni
Scenario
Mary Jones-Trewell has been active alum of "Your School" for
more than 20 years. She is now a busy attorney in a major
city, wrestling with all of the challenges associated with
balancing a career and a family. Late one evening in early
December 2002, Mary logs on to the "Your School" Alumni website
to do her Christmas shopping.
Operating like any e-commerce
site, the "Your School/ Student Online" Alumni shopping site
allows people like Mary to use their shopping dollars to support
their school communities instead of unfamiliar corporate interests.
For her nieces and nephews, who are currently attending "Your
School," Mary selects several CD's that will arrive in time
for Christmas, packaged as "School Support" gifts. For her
former college roommate, Mary selects a "Your School" sweatshirt,
and purchases airline tickets for her son and daughter to
come home for school over Christmas. Her 16-year old daughter
will receive a digital "Your School" cell phone and one year
of minimum service, bringing the total of "Your School" cell
phones in Mary's family to five; one each for Mary, her husband,
and each of her three children.
She gives her husband (also
a "Your School" alum), a dinner/ lodging package for the "Big
Game." In each case, a percentage of Mary's purchase goes
to "Your School." Like Erik, Mary uses the comparison-shopping
engine on the "Your School/ Student Online" alumni portal
to compare goods according to qualitative and quantitative
considerations.
